Unearthed Artifacts
Post-Cyberpunk Relics from a Forgotten Future
Solo exhibition, 2026 — THIS Gallery, Vancouver, BC
This exhibition explores the tension between past and future, preservation and decay, function and obsolescence. Drawing on speculative archaeology and cyberpunk aesthetics, Wilson Makgawinata creates ceramic artifacts that appear as relics from a post-cyberpunk era—objects unearthed long after their intended use has been forgotten. By integrating industrial materials, metallic finishes, and unconventional presentation methods such as vacuum-sealed packaging and acrylic specimen cases, the work blurs the line between scientific discovery and artistic expression. These pieces challenge traditional perceptions of ceramics as a functional medium, instead presenting them as fragments of a lost technological civilization.
